Obituary

ATLANTA, GA - Mr. Eddie Howard was born into time on February 13, 1943 to the late Thouds Howard and Ella Mae Howard in Register, GA. Affectionately known as "BIG ED," Eddie spent his early childhood in the Register, GA community and then later moved to Fort Piece, FL. and then relocated to Orlando, FL, where he embarked on his entrepreneur skills and opened his paint and body shop.

After relocating back to Statesboro, GA he joined Mount Pisgah AME Church of Portal, GA. where he served faithfully as a Deacon.

Eddie enjoyed restoring and painting cars, a profession he truly enjoyed. He found peace and purpose in the works and skills. He delighted in the simple pleasures of life, such as outdoors and car racing., Known for his unforgettable smile, Eddie made lthere was never a dull moment. . His warmth, humor, and genuine love for people will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Family was the heart of Eddie’s life. He cherished family gatherings, his favorite foods, and the fellowship of loved ones. A man of strong faith, Eddie loved discussing the goodness of God and lived his life with a spirit that brought light and laughter to those around him.

On March 31, 2026, at the age of 83, Eddie bid farewell to this earth and made the transition to his heavenly home. He was reunited with his parents, Thouds and Ella Mae Howard; his grandson, Tyrone Lashely; his brothers, Nathaniel Howard and Alvin Howard; his sister, Orlinzer Howard-Jordan, who preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Wanda D. (Wesley) Smith of Cincinnati, OH, Wanda D. Cuyler of Warner Robins GA, Eddie Howard, Jr. of Statesboro, GA, Sharon (Dr. Jerome) Strutchen of Crestview FL, Tiffany Owens of Fort Piece, FL, Tracey Pryor of Statesboro, GA, LaQuisha Howard of Groveland, FL and Laquan Howard of Orlando, FL ;his grandchildren, Jerome D. Strutchen Jr, Ashley D. Smith, Gabriel D. Strutchen, Shannon Smith, Sharome (Steven) Stanley, Sabrina Smith, Karissa Smith, Brandon Howard, Joshua Howard , Nicole Howard, Nadiyah Salah, Kendal Cuyler, Marshaye Pryor, Zacarus King, Makenzie Howard and Kensley Howard; 16 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mayola Rozier of Augusta, GA, Gloria (Bobby) Hendrix of Savannah, GA, Marrell Johnson of Hinesville, GA, Merkle (Anthony) Hagan of Hampton, GA, Karen Howard of Statesboro, GA and Carolyn Howard of Sylvania, GA; his brothers, Harvey Howard and Cefus Howard both of Statesboro, GA . Additionally, he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and countless loved ones who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Eddie lived fully, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of joy, faith, and family. He touched the lives of everyone he met and left a lasting impact on this world. Eddie will be missed, as his passing leaves a void that only he could fill. However, his legacy will endure, and his kind words and valuable lessons will always be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Eddie Howard will be held on Saturday April 11, 2026 at the hour of 11:00 AM at the Greater Bethel AME Church, 102 Peachtree Street, Statesboro, GA 30458 with Pastor Germain Williams, Eulogist. Mr. Howard will lie in repose from 10:00 AM until the hour of service.
